Ever since I got my 99 miata, I've had bad experiences one after another until I found PR Motorsport almost two years ago. Unlike other mechanics I've dealt with, they are straight forward and honest. They don't patronize their customers and are always very friendly and patient in explaining their work. Although they are not the cheapest, they don't gouge you like many places I've been to. They suggest what needs to be done and tell you what's unnecessary. I've had problems with my car that others weren't able to fix. I thought I was stuck with a lemon but PR Motorsports saved me from that fate. Now, I get all my work done there and I would recommend them with confidence to anyone.

Some years ago, maybe about 1999 or so, I bought a used Mazda and searched the yellow pages for a repair shop for it. Quite at random, I called PR Motor Sports. A woman answered. Even though I personally know very little about automobiles, I asked to speak to “a mechanic” ( a MAN, of course). Laura suggested that she might be able to help me. Reluctantly, I posed my questions. As it turns out, she knew more about cars than any male mechanic I had ever known, and thus was borne our family’s undying allegiance to Rick & Laura and their crew at PR MotorSports.. Despite the long drive from our home in Oakland to Hayward, we would not CONSIDER having anyone else work on our cars, and – in fact – before we ever BUY a car, we ask for Rick & Laura’s opinion and would not dream of buying any manufacturer’s car that PRM does not support. These guys are THE BEST: honest to a fault, totally competent and thorough, AND fairly priced. They feel like “family” to us. Don & Kathleen, Oakland

I echo the chorus of positive reviews for PR Motorsports. I have had a long history of mediocre mechanics and dropped by PRMotorsports to see if the online buzz was legit. I was impressed in their quick ability to assess my car, prioritize the work and their willingness to make suggestions that might result in a more cost effective result (they are not the cheapest place around but it is nice to hear which work needs to be done immediately and what can wait or not be done at all and that is money in the bank to me, as is doing the job right and backing it up). They are serious about their work and they treat their customers very well. I saw high performance cars and their customers who were treated as well as folk who were clearly on a fixed income and who were just trying to keep their cars running and safe. Rick and his team treated them all the same and that was refreshing too. To sum it up: they know their stuff (and my car) and they are honest. What more could I ask for? (until recently I lamented that they did not also work on VW's but I recently found a great shop for my Passat too, but that will be another review)

Rick and the PR Motorsports crew are the best. In my dealings with PR Motorsports I have always gotten excellent information and service. They will only propose work that they know is needed. At times Rick has talked me out of doing something to the car. I just had brake problems and they spent an hour analyzing the cause, identified the source, knew it was something I could correct myself, and sent me on my way with a project to work on because they knew I did most of my own mechanical work. What other shop would go to these lengths. All my recent major work has been done at PR Motorsports and will continue to be done there.

Rick and his crew at PR Motorsports are as good as it gets when it comes to Mazda, Acura & Honda service. I've been using PR Motorsports since 2000 and they've serviced my 1992 Miata, 1994 Miata, 1994 Spec Miata Race Car, and 1997 Mazda Protege. Rick will tell you straight up what you need, with no BS. They don't pressure you to do unnecessary repairs or maintenance, rather Rick goes out of his way to educate you on what your car needs and when you might need the next service or repair. I give PR Motorsports 2 thumbs up, make that 10 thumbs up!!!

They first started servicing my Acura back in 1990, and have since taken care of all my cars - later a Mazda, and most recently my Toyota. Although I'm a bit far away (in S.F.) I feel that it's worth the trip to have someone I can trust taking care of our family's cars. Highly recommended.

If there were six stars to rate PR Motorsports available, I'd give it seven! Rick Weldon has been servicing my 1991 Mazda Miata from day one when I first bought it nearly eighteen years ago. In fact no other shop has really ever worked on it except for specialty things that the his shop doesn't handle, (and in that case, Rick sends me to extremely reliable shops who will!) This is all to say that I completely trust PR with my car, always have. They are honest beyond belief, trustworthy and so friendly. I just had a major service there which took some time and yet felt comfortable staying and chatting the entire time and watching what was going on. I learned about PR early on in 1991 from the Miata Club whose members all brought their cars to Rick. From the first time on I was thrilled to have found them right away without having to shop and search for reliable service. They have become almost family to me by now. The shop is so clean you could eat off the floor! They keep up on all the newest developments on automotive technology so there's never concern on my part. Also their prices are extremely reasonable. I travel from Walnut Creek to this shop, and now my husband is taking his Acura here as well. Which is to say, I'm true blue.
Pros: Extremely reliable and professional, honest, caring staff
Cons: None really. Just a bit far to travel for me, but worth it big time.

When I bought my '88 RX7 14 years ago the previous owner told me that he got all of the servicing done at PR Motorsports, so I tried them. The drive to Hayward from Oakland isn't quick, but unlike almost every other car shop that I have been to, Rick and his crew seem genuinely interested in my long-term interests. Hey has always given me a heads-up on parts of the car that I should watch out for in the future and gives me the option of when (or if) to do the repairs. Even though they obviously know and loving high performance and racing, they always talk to me in terms that I can understand. That's nice, because it has helped me to learn more about what my car needs and how to keep it running great! When I visit there I always feels like family ... and their cat mascot is the coolest! I recommend PR Motorsports to anybody that loves their car and wants a comfortable place with great people.
Pros: like family, really know their stuff, won't try to do repairs you don't need
Cons: Far from Oakland, but worth the drive

I first brought my 1985 RX-7 GSL-SE to P.R. Motorsports when I bought it in about 1993 or 1994. A friend had raced RX-7s and swore by Rick and his crew. Though it wasn't exactly convenient (I live in Oakland) to bring my car to an industrial park in Hayward, I was so impressed with their knowledge and the quality and value of their work, along with the family atmosphere, that I found it well worth the hassle. After 5 or 6 years (and 222,000 miles) I sold my Mazda and bought a Nissan 300ZX. I loved the car, but was bummed that P.R. didn't work on Zs and I had to find another mechanic. Recently I retired the Z (with 225,000 miles) and found a 2001 Miata Special Edition with less than 20,000 miles! There was no question where I was going to take it for servicing. I called P.R. and was glad to hear Laura answer the phone. Though it had been more than seven years, she and Rick remembered me immediately. I was also happy to hear that Hector was still there. I brought my new Miata in for a general going over and a cold air intake mod. Nothing had changed. Still great people doing great work at more than competitive prices. The mechanic who worked on my Z also works on Mazda's, but I wouldn't dream of taking my Miata anywhere else but P.R. Motorsports. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I shopped for an auto mechanic for my car as carefully as I shopped for a pediatrician for my kids--lots of research, lots of talking with friends about their experiences. I was looking for someone I could trust to tell me the truth about my car's condition, keep me updated about any work needed, and keep it in safe running order since I transport the most valuable things in the world--my kids. I also wanted someone who wasn't going to overcharge me. PR Motorsports is my choice. Over the years, owner Rick Weldon and his team of professionals have cared for our two minivans and now our two Toyota hybrids. Their honesty, integrity and professional (and efficient) service have made me a loyal customer. I drive all the way from Oakland/Piedmont area to Hayward each time. Their service is THAT good and that valuable to me! Give them a shot. You won't be disappointed. And, if you're the kind that likes to wait--they now offer free internet access!
Pros: personable, professional, efficient, smart, high integrity, honest
Cons: distance from my home--but worth it.
