Editorial Review for Gold Mountain – by Lorraine Sanders
In Short
Fans swear by the inexpensive dim sum that comes off the carts circulating this eatery's expansive, cafeteria-like dining room. The restaurant has three floors to accommodate the hoards of diners who arrive on weekend mornings eager to pop wontons, dumplings and pork buns into their mouths. The dinner menu offers traditional fare like roasted Peking duck, a selection of Cantonese country-style claypot dishes and seafood offerings ranging from Maine Lobster to steamed live crab.

We searched on this site for a good Dim Sum restaurant in Chinatown. I have had Dim Sum ~30 times in the last 15 years and would rate this as pretty good. My dad and I went on a Sunday ~11ish am and were promptly seated. If you are a small party, you might end up at adjoining tables with others, but this did not bother us. The place is pretty spartan but not dingy. When we came, the place was filled with 90+ percent people of Chinese (or other Asian) origin -we considered this to be a positive sign. They have a pretty "classic" selection of dishes, lots of dumplings, egg rolls, dessert and a few veggie dishes. The jasmine tea was very fragrant - a nice touch. The food itself was tasty, but everything appeared to be deep-fried or steamed but greasy. Service was efficient and generally competent, though the English capability of the servers was pretty poor. You will have to be adventurous if you don't speak Mandarin as it is likely you will pick dishes without knowing the ingredients. The prices are very low. A good bet for weekend dim sum in San Francisco.
Pros: Good selection of dishes, low prices
Cons: Lots of fried stuff, poor English capability

the dim sum they serve here is nothing to brag about. there are probably other dim sum shops which have way better tasting food then this place and for a cheaper price.
